moving map lines

I would like to show a map of travels in a video.
I would like to have a dashed line or cartoon car or something trace the route of travel.
Does anyone know how this can be done.
I edit in Pinnacle Studio ultimate 12.

The easiest way to do this is through animation or compositing using a separate program.

For free,

2d animation/compositing:

DebugMode's Wax ( http://www.debugmode.com/wax/ ) can do this but the interface is a bit odd.
Pencil ( http://www.les-stooges.org/pascal/penci ... hp?id=Home ) can do this a bit easier, but is still in early beta and doesn't seem to work well in Windows.

3d animation:

Blender ( http://www.blender.org/ )

or, you could always just create a series of images in a painting application and insert them in sequence (some editing software will pull in sequentially named files [like file001.png file002.png file003.png ...] as a single clip, not sure if Pinnacle Studio can, if you don't want to worry about sizing them in your editor, there are likely free animation programs that will string the images together for you). Also, if you use Jasc PaintShop Pro, it comes with AnimationShop which can handle this.
